Travis: Being early won't make the bus come on time, you know.
Ria: Travis! ... Man. Don't reckon I ever saw you out of uniform before.
Travis: I'm on base and off duty. It happens sometimes. Since I was free, I thought I'd drop by. See you off and such.
Ria: You didn't have to do that.
Travis: I wanted to. I kept thinking I should buy you a gift or something, but I couldn't decide what you'd like....
Ria: A gift? For what?
Travis: Um, happy going-away present? Good luck in your new home?
Ria: 'Thanks for not gettin' youself killed, it woulda looked real bad on my record?'
Travis: Yeah, finding a card was tricky too.

When last we saw... Travis - Ria

This catching-up thing, it's going to start happening any day now.

On a related note -- you guys in the comment section are awesome. I feel bad that I haven't had a chance to go back and reply for, like, a week, but I am reading them and you're making me very happy and I will start wading through really soon or at least once I get my email caught up. Please don't stop.

... short version: no comic until Tuesday, and that will be the only comic next week (though there may be filler up on Friday) Oh, and if you're at NASFIC in Raleigh, shout out, because so am I.

Longer version: Tuesday's strip -- the one that should have been up this Tuesday -- is the last strip in this storyline, which as you've probably guessed by now, is winding to a close. Something I should have remembered from my novel days: I am terrible at endings. Relatively simple strip, but I was struggling with writer's block right up until Wednesday night, when I forced myself to buckle down and write something I could live with. Okay. Just an hour or two's work Thursday afternoon before I leave for the con, and I could at least have something up for Friday.

That would be the afternoon that a lightning strike caused a massive power outage in my area.

So... yeah. I did not get the comic done, for obvious reasons. I'm now not at home all weekend (and praying the strike didn't take out anything in the computer itself -- though the chances are pretty good there; I have a UPS and all) and had no way to even transfer my work over to the laptop. I am also pissed off, but that doesn't help get anything done.

I'm also at least as sick of this string of excuses as you are, so once I get the strip up, I'm going to take some time off and try to build one of those mythical 'buffer' things -- the rest of next week at least, and possibly a week or so after. I'm extra-pissed because I was planning this all along. I just wanted to get this one final strip up. Was that too much to ask, universe?

(... yeah, don't answer that.)
